Description du sujet de thèse
This PhD work will focus on the development of innovative “Depleted CMOS” monolithic sensors in the context of future applications for High Energy Physics experiments. These sensors present the benefit of integrating both particle detection and signal processing electronics within the same substrate. The selected candidate will make use of their knowledge in microelectronics and ASIC architecture concepts used in the field to bring cutting edge solutions in this challenging context.
Main activities
- Establish the state of the art of pixel circuits in particle physics and study the evolution of integrated circuit architectures.
- To take into account the tolerance to ionising dose of the process and to study its compatibility (after irradiation) with the constraints in pixel circuits.
- Participating in R&D concerning the high-potential TPSCo 65nm technology as part of projects linked to FCC-ee.
- Design the digital parts of the circuits for the two projects.
- Participating in the definition and development of test systems to characterise the circuits designed in the laboratory.
- Present work at collaboration meetings, workshops and conferences
Technical know-how
- Solid knowledge and creativity in the design of microelectronic circuits, particularly complex digital circuit architectures.
- Mastery of tools for designing, simulating, drawing and verifying digital ASICs (Cadence environment).
- Knowledge of mixed circuit design rules (analogue/digital).
- Knowledge of digital modelling languages (VHDL-Verilog, etc.) and digital synthesis and placement tools.
Contexte de travail
Located in the heart of the Parc National des Calanques, on the Luminy campus, the CPPM is a joint research laboratory of the CNRS and Aix-Marseille University, with around 180 researchers, engineers and PhD students. The laboratory studies subjects ranging from particle physics to astroparticle physics and cosmology, with a strong technological focus on electronics, mechanics, instrumentation and computing, enabling the design and construction of cutting-edge detection systems, often called upon to operate under extreme conditions: in the depths of the sea, in space or underground. Most of our research is carried out as part of leading international scientific collaborations, and our contributions are recognized worldwide. CPPM is committed to ethical research and promotes diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and provides administrative and logistical support to newcomers, particularly PhD students.
