Job Description
Thesis Subject
The goal of this PhD project is to study the emergence, dynamics, and detection of anyonic excitations in the edge states of experimentally relevant platforms such as fractional quantum Hall systems, Kitaev spin liquids, and related topological phases of matter. The project will combine analytical approaches, including effective field theories and edge-state descriptions, with numerical method. Particular attention will be paid to signatures of Abelian and non-Abelian statistics in transport, interferometry, time-dependent protocols, and correlation functions using topological edge states.
Your Work Environment
Two-dimensional quantum systems can host anyons: exotic excitations whose exchange statistics interpolate between those of bosons and fermions. Exchanging two anyons may add a non-trivial phase to the many-body wave function, or, in the case of non-Abelian anyons, transform the quantum state within a degenerate Hilbert space. These properties make anyons a central concept in modern condensed-matter physics, with potential applications ranging from fractional quantum Hall physics to topological quantum computation.
