Description du sujet de thèse

The PhD project will deal with the study of the possibility of generating high harmonics in solid state materials such as GeTe and Wte, produced at CINaM, with the aim, and this is the originality of the proposal, of controlling this HHG using ferroelectric polarisation. Beyond these materials the general idea of this project is to explore the impact interfacial states, ferroelectric polarization, spin-orbit coupling and Berry curvature on high-harmonic generation.
The core of the PhD project is to develop theoretical studies to understand HHG in such systems and makes it tunable for technological purposes or a new kind of characterization techniques of condensed matter systems. Methodology will rely on real-time approach [1] and Floquet theory [2,3].

This PhD position is funded by the Aix-Marseille Foundation (https://www.univ-amu.fr/en/) and is part of a collaborative project with experimental colleagues from the CINaM and LIDYL (https://iramis.cea.fr/LIDYL/) laboratories.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a Master's degree in physics (or related disciplines) and a strong background in condensed matter physics or materials science.
Good written and spoken English is essential for communication with our external collaborators. Basic knowledge of Linux is appreciated.

If you enjoy running simulations, programming and developing theory, this could be a good position for you.

Interested candidates should send a letter of motivation, a CV, an official Master's transcript and the contact details of one or two referees to Claudio Attaccalite (phd.position.cinam@gmail.com).

Applications will be considered immediately.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Contexte de travail

This thesis will be a theoretical work, partly analytical and partly numerical.
The work will be carried out in a dynamic theoretical group and in contact with different laboratories and experimental colleagues. The student will have access to a local computing centre and, if necessary, to national machines.
The student will have the obligation and the opportunity to follow various training courses during his/her thesis, whether inherent to the subject of the thesis or more general

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.

Contraintes et risques

As this is theoretical work, there are no particular risks associated with this doctoral position.
