Job Description

Thesis Subject

You will be integrated into the research team of Professor Alejandro A. Franco at the Laboratory of Reactivity and Solid-State Chemistry (LRCS) and will contribute to the digitalization of manufacturing processes for next-generation energy conversion and storage devices (solid oxide fuel cells and electrolyzers, and sodium-ion batteries).

The main mission will be to develop and implement a multiscale modeling framework capable of predicting the influence of manufacturing parameters on the final microstructure and performance of these devices. Building on the pioneering ARTISTIC platform, previously developed by the team for modeling lithium-ion battery manufacturing processes, you will create numerical models of shaping and sintering steps to optimize the production of functional ceramics for energy storage and conversion applications.

Your Work Environment

The SuMaCer project aims to enable sustainable, right-first-time, zero-defect manufacturing of functional ceramics for Net-Zero energy industry devices by integrating stereolithography (SLA), ceramic inkjet printing (CIP), and HiPIMS-PVD with zero-defect manufacturing (ZDM) approaches, advanced modeling, and a Digital Product Passport (DPP) using open interfaces (OPC-UA, MQTT, REST). In this programme, your main activities will consist in approaching : Physical Modeling, Multiphysics Simulation, Data Generation and AI and Numerical caraterization.

You will benefit from the recognized expertise of Professor Franco, his team, and LRCS, and will have access to high-performance computing resources. You will be co-supervised by Professor Vincent Seznec, benefiting from his expertise in ceramic materials synthesis. You will be registered at doctoral school of Université de Picardie Jules Verne of Amiens.

LRCS is the largest public research laboratory on batteries in France and is at the forefront of research on next-generation energy systems, with a particular focus on rechargeable batteries. Its strength lies in its ability to combine expertise in chemistry, electrochemistry, characterization techniques, numerical modeling, and artificial intelligence to address major challenges in electrochemical energy storage and conversion. Its research activities are diverse, ranging from the design and fabrication of electrodes for conventional or innovative batteries to the implementation and assembly of complete prototype cells based on these electrodes.
