Job Description
Thesis Subject
Embryonic glycobiology and its contribution to geometric control of morphogenesis in Drosophila melangaster
The glycocalyx consists of the ensemble of protein or lipid associated glycans that make up the outermost surface of the tissue. The glycocalyx can protect the tissue surface against mechanical stress, play a role in cell-cell adhesion and either regulate cell signaling events. We hypothesize that spatial or temporal changes to glycocalyx composition may contribute to the proper orchestration of gastrulation of drosophila melangaster.
Three lines of investigation focusing on the embryonic glycocalyx will be
1) characterizing the spatial and temporal distrubtution of glyco-epitopes by flourescent microsocpy.
2) Characterization of glycans on specific glycoproteins at distinct early developemental stages ie pre-blastoderm, blastoderm, gastrulating embyo
3) role of glycoosylation in GPCR signalling events in the early embryo.
Your Work Environment
The IBDM, located on the Luminy Campus, comprises approximately 220 tenured researchers, faculty members, engineers, and technicians, as well as non-tenured staff on fixed-term contracts, postdocs, doctoral students, and interns, distributed across 21 research teams and 11 technical facilities and services. The IBDM is a joint research unit under the supervision of the CNRS and AMU, which explores the field of developmental biology and associated pathologies. The work will be carried out within the “Organization and Dynamics of Biological Forms” team led by Thomas LECUIT. As the laboratory is composed of members of various nationalities, proficiency in English is essential.
