Description of the thesis topic

Hydrogen has become the essential energy vector in for the energy transition. To this end, the French program PEPR-H2 devoted to hydrogen aims at developing, advanced technologies in all hydrogen-related fields. The production of pure or green hydrogen by water electrolysis still requires research to reduce the costs associated with its development. The aim of the PEPR H2 ANGELIC project is to design and develop a large surface area AEM water electrolyser. To this end, the PhD project proposed at IC2MP will be devoted to the development of new cathode materials for the hydrogen evolution reaction. These materials will be characterised using various physico-chemical techniques and also electrochemical ones in order to optimize their performance

Work Context

The candidate (M/F) will be working at the Institut de Chimie des Milieux et Matériaux de Poitiers (IC2MP), UMR 7285 CNRS - Université de Poitiers, on a strategic energy transition topic as part of the PERP H2 ANGELIC project. The research developed at IC2MP is part of a global eco-design approach (see: https://ic2mp.labo.univ-poitiers.fr/) which includes the design and development of active materials for energy conversion and storage. The IC2MP has the working environment (research team, equipment, platform, etc.) to ensure the success of this mission, which involves researchers from the SAMCat team as part of the PEPR H2 ANGELIC project consortium. The candidate (M/F) will work under the supervision of the project's scientific manager at IC2MP.
The post is located in a sector covered by the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival be authorised by the competent MESR authority

Additional Information

Recruited by the CNRS within the IC2MP for 36-months, the candidate (M/F) will be responsible for:- a bibliographical study of transition metal materials doped or not with heteroatoms for the hydrogen evolution reaction. The candidate (M/F) will provide an exhaustive bibliographical report at the end of the first year;- physico-chemical and electrochemical characterization of nanomaterials developed; data processing, results analysis; progress reports, writing of the thesis manuscript and its defence.
