Job Description
Thesis Subject
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) ensure the lifelong production of all blood cell types. With age, HSCs undergo functional and molecular changes that impair their regenerative capacity and contribute to the development of age-related hematological disorders.
This PhD project aims to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying HSC senescence and functional aging, as well as their consequences for hematopoiesis. The PhD candidate will investigate the links between inflammatory signaling, cellular stress responses, senescence, and the maintenance of HSC function.
The project will combine mouse models with cellular and molecular biology approaches, flow cytometry, and transcriptomic and epigenomic analyses.
The ultimate goal is to identify the mechanisms driving the age-associated loss of stem cell function and to explore strategies to preserve or restore functional hematopoiesis.
Your Work Environment
The PhD candidate will work within the **“Molecular Hematology – Blood Signals”** team, under the supervision of **Dr Eirini Trompouki**, at the **Institute for Research on Cancer and Aging of Nice (IRCAN)**.
IRCAN is a multidisciplinary research institute located at the heart of the Pasteur University Hospital campus in Nice. Research at IRCAN aims to understand the biological mechanisms linking aging to age-related diseases, particularly cancer. Particular emphasis is placed on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of aging, stress responses, inflammation, epigenetics, and the cellular microenvironment.

Constraints and Risks
The position involves working with mouse models and conducting cellular and molecular biology experiments. The PhD candidate may handle biological samples, chemicals, and reagents associated with biological or chemical risks.
Some experiments may require working hours to be adapted to the constraints of experimental protocols.
All activities will be conducted in accordance with health and safety regulations, institutional procedures, and current regulations governing animal experimentation. The necessary training and authorizations will be provided according to the requirements of the project.
