Description of the thesis topic

The thesis project is part of our thematic study of cell differentiation in a multicellular cyanobacterium (Anabaena). In this bacterium, all ten cells of the filaments differentiate into a distinct cell type. This regular pattern of differentiated cells is essential for the viability of bacteria in their natural environment. What dictates this pattern and how it is maintained are still open questions. The objective will be to decipher the molecular mechanism of three factors playing an important role in the developmental process and in the establishment of this pattern. In a recent study we have shown the existence of a network of connections between these factors. This thesis also aims to study the impact of these interactions on the temporal dynamics of cell differentiation. The thesis project is part of a collaborative thesis project. The candidate will participate in the working meetings of the consortium.
