Job Description
Thesis Subject
The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is one of the most powerful probes of the early Universe. Upcoming experiments such as the Simons Observatory and LiteBIRD aim to measure the polarization of the CMB with unprecedented sensitivity in order to constrain primordial gravitational waves, cosmic inflation, and other fundamental physics.
This PhD project will develop novel Bayesian inference methods based on Simulation-Based Inference (SBI) to perform end-to-end cosmological analyses directly from realistic instrument simulations. The work will combine advanced statistical inference, numerical simulations and high-performance computing to jointly model instrumental systematics, astrophysical foregrounds and cosmological parameters within a unified probabilistic framework. Applications will target data from the Simons Observatory and future CMB experiments.
Your Work Environment
The student will join the Cosmology group at APC (Université Paris Cité / CNRS), an internationally recognized team involved in several major cosmology projects, including the Simons Observatory, LiteBIRD, Euclid and DESC/Rubin Observatory.
The project is half-funded through the ERC Consolidator Grant SciPol, whose objective is to develop robust and scalable methods for CMB polarization analysis. The PhD student will benefit from collaborations with leading international institutes and access to state-of-the-art high-performance computing facilities.
Constraints and risks
- Occasional international travel for collaboration meetings and conferences.
- Intensive use of high-performance computing resources.
