Description of the thesis topic
The development of new synthetic methodologies for the rapid and sustainable construction of complex molecules is a key challenge of modern organic synthesis. This Ph.D. project will target this ambitious goal and develop new methodologies for the asymmetric synthesis of chiral molecules of interest by using the C-H activation strategy. Targeting truly sustainable protocols we will focus on the use of cheap and earth-abandoned 3d metals, including Co, Ni, Fe, and Mn. To reach the desired reactivity the Ph.D. student will design and synthesize unprecedented, multi-functional chiral ligands.
This Ph.D. is financed via an ERC grant. The project will be conducted within a young and dynamic research team composed of approx. 10 young coworkers (M/F Ph.D. students and Post-doc). Our teams collaborate with various national and international partners, including industrial partners, international leaders in pharmaceutical and agrochemical chemistries. The team is a part of LIMA laboratory, the biggest molecular chemistry laboratory in Grand Est (approx. 90 coworkers). LIMA laboratory is situated in both, Strasbourg and Mulhouse but this Ph.D. will be conducted in Strasbourg. The research field of the LIMA laboratory ranges from the development of new reactions from organic synthesis and new catalytic reactions, up to the study of physico-chemical properties of molecules and the design of new biologically active compounds and organic materials.

We are searching for a very motivated and high skilled organic chemist, with a strong theoretical background and experimental skills. Previous experience in methodology development, metal-catalysis, and asymmetric synthesis will be a real advantage.
