Description du sujet de thèse

As part of the High Power and Hybrid Batteries (HIPOHYBAT, PEPR Batteries) project, the postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for the synthesis of different types of negative electrode materials for power batteries or hybrid devices. The materials studied will mainly be niobium-based oxides for which different substitutions will be considered. The synthesized materials will be characterized by classical structural and microstructural methods (DRX, SEM, Raman, etc.) and the most promising compounds will be further investigated through more advanced analytical techniques to carry out in-situ or operando observations (X-ray absorption spectroscopies, neutron diffraction, etc.). The synthesized materials will also be evaluated through different electrochemical techniques. Particular attention will be paid to the power performance and cyclability of the prepared electrodes, with regard to the objectives of the HIPOHYBAT project.

Contexte de travail

The project is part of the new PEPR Batteries project and more specifically the Hybrid Power Batteries project supported by the ANR (French National Research Agency). The HIPOHYBAT project brings together 11 French laboratories aiming to design innovative high-power batteries. The doctoral student will be located in the ST2E team of the Jean Rouxel Materials Institute of Nantes (IMN), UMR CNRS 6502, CNRS/Nantes University, under the supervision of Prof. Thierry Brousse. The host team has extensive expertise in the field of battery and pseudo-capacitive materials acquired over the last 20 years through industrial partnerships and international collaborations.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.

Contraintes et risques

Typical risks associated with a research project in the field of materials science and chemistry. Travel: As this is a collaborative project, short stays in the partners' laboratories will be required. Travel of a few days for meetings and conferences (possibly abroad) is also expected.

Informations complémentaires

Scientific and technical skills required:

- hold a master's degree in materials chemistry or equivalent, or an engineering degree in materials science. The candidate must be interested in the solid-state chemistry perspective of battery materials;
- have good organisational skills as well as good oral and written communication skills (French and English);
- be able to analyze and summarize and be able to develop arguments;
- be able to work as part of a team;
- a willingness learn new techniques and to work in a high-level international environment.

Travel for international conferences is to be expected during the thesis
