Job Description
Thesis Subject
Small vertebrates are more sensitive to environmental changes than large fauna, due to their size and limited mobility, particularly in Europe. Research on the fossil populations of these groups provides valuable information for current conservation practices, as well as insights into extinction processes and responses to climate change. The objectives of the IRP project 'Evolution of ecological niches in rodents over time' are as follows: 1) To evaluate the relevance of mechanistic or predictive niche models for integrating biotic and abiotic factors into the distribution of modern species. 2) Application to key rodent species (e.g. Dicrostonyx, Apodemus) and communities. 3) Integrate fossil data and understand the past niche structuring of a species within communities.
Your Work Environment
The BIOGÉOSCIENCES research unit is a research community that brings together permanent researchers from the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), professors and lecturers from the University of Burgundy and the EPHE (École pratique des hautes études), technicians, post-doctoral students, doctoral students and visiting researchers. BIOGÉOSCIENCES is structured around five interacting research teams whose scientific activities are deeply rooted in the fields of sedimentology, environmental sciences, climatology, palaeontology and ecology/evolutionary biology.
