Description du sujet de thèse

The thesis is part of the interdisciplinary project CINEMA (ANR PRC). This project is focused on the preparation of chiral lanthanide ligands and complexes at the MOLTECH-Anjou laboratory and analysis of their crystal structures and chiroptical properties.
The selected candidate will be on charge of the synthesis of chiral organic compounds (multi-step synthesis), lanthanide and transition metal coordination complexes.
He/She will carry out product characterisation and analysis (proton/carbon NMR, IR, UV-Vis and CD spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray diffraction) and interpret the results.
He/she will participate in the supervision of internship undergraduate students in relation to the research topic.
He/she will disseminate the results of the project and participate in the promotion of the results (scientific publications, conferences).
The candidate must hold a Master's degree in chemistry.
The candidate must be motivated by research and organic synthesis, and must have a solid knowledge of synthetic chemistry of chiral ligands and precursors, metal complexes (organic/coordination chemistry, purification and characterisation methods), a good understanding and interest in the synthesis of crystalline materials, as well as knowledge of X-ray crystallography and chiral methods.
The candidate must be able to present the results of the project, a good level of English is required.
Other skills such as theoretical chemistry will be highly appreciated.

Contexte de travail

The thesis work will carry out at MOLTECH-Anjou Laboratory (a joint CNRS-University of Angers research unit) and is part of the interdisciplinary project CINEMA (ANR PRC).
The MOLTECH-Anjou Laboratory brings together the expertise of 80 people, including nearly 50 CNRS researchers, academic researchers, engineers, and technical staff, as well as around 30 doctoral and post-doctoral researchers.
The scientific activity of the MOLTECH-Anjou Laboratory focuses on the development of molecular materials, whether organic or hybrid organic-inorganic, supporting high-visibility research areas such as organic electronics, stimuli-responsive materials, nanostructuring, and materials for energy.
Six research teams combine their expertise in theoretical and computational chemistry, organic and inorganic synthesis, coordination and supramolecular chemistry, physical and analytical chemistry, materials design, and photonics. Five teams are affiliated with the CNRS National Institute of Chemistry (INC), while the sixth is part of the CNRS National Institute of Physics (CIMI - ECHO - KEMTRONIX - PulSAr - VoltEdge - SAMSON).
The selected candidate will work in the CIMI Team.

Contraintes et risques

The main risks are associated with the nature of the chemicals used in and for the synthesis of the target materials (CMR, cryogenic liquids, high temperature, flammable organic solvents, etc.).
