Description of the thesis topic

The thesis is set in pure mathematics, in particular in algebraic geometry and birationnal geometry. The PhD student will study algebraic surfaces called del Pezzo surfaces, which are of small degree. The objective of the thesis is to classify these surfaces up to isomorphism and to describe their automorphism group. The PhD student needs to already have a basis in algebraic geometry.

Work Context

The thesis takes place in pure mathematics at the Laboratoire angevin de rechernche en mathématiques at the University of Angers. The PhD fellow will be member of the research group "Algèbre et Géométries". They will participate in the scientific seminars of the research group. They will share an office and have their own workspace and computer, and will have free access to the library.
The thesis is attached to the école doctorale MATHSTIC, who is a member of the Elocles des docteurs Bretagne Loire.
The thesis is co-advised by Andrea Fanelli, Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux, with whom the PhD fellow will discuss regularly. For this, they will travel to Bordeau from time to time.
There will be two research stays at the Institute for Basic Science and POSTECH in Pohang, South Korea, under the supervision of Prof. Jihun Park.

Constraints and risks

The PhD fellow should work at the Laboratoire angevin de recherche en mathématiques in Angers.
The thesis is co-advised by Andrea Fanelli, Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux, with whom the PhD fellowwill discuss regularly. For this, they will travel to Bordeau from time to time.

Additional Information

The candidate must have a degree Masters in pure mathematics. The post requires sound knowledge of algebraic geometry. We are looking for a PhD fellow who will be able to become fully involved with the project, with a thirst for knowledge,
a certain independence of thought and strong motivation to develop skills in the field of algebraic geometry.
