Job Description
Thesis Subject
The efficiency of aircraft engines increases with operating temperature. With this in mind, the hottest sections of the most advanced engines are made of SiC/SiC composites. However, there is currently a strong demand for the development of new composites capable of operating at even higher temperatures than SiC/SiC composites.
The main objective of this doctoral thesis is to explore various ceramic compounds that can be reinforced with ceramic fibers to withstand aggressive mechanical and thermal environments at temperatures approaching 1,500 °C. We will study the relationship between the manufacturing process, microstructure, and high-temperature properties of these ceramic compositions.
Your Work Environment
LCTS is a joint lab of CNRS, Bordeaux University, CEA and Safran, located on the Bordeaux Campus. It has 36 years of experience in basic science research on refractory composites. These high-performance materials are used in aviation, space, energy & industrial applications. LCTS is single research team working in project-oriented mode, in strong relation with its non-academic stakeholders. Currently it includes 34 permanent staff members, plus some 15 PhD candidates and 4 post-doc researchers.
