Job Description
Thesis Subject
The subject of the proposed doctoral work is the study of the process for preparing a silicon oxynitride (Si2N2O) matrix for composites with woven fiber reinforcements, alumina or silicon carbide. This type of ceramic matrix composites reveals a particular interest both for aeronautical propulsion and hypersonic vehicles. The production of this matrix from a mixture of silicon powder and silica in nitrogen environment under high pressure has certain advantages compared to processes such as sintering or densification by gaseous process. However, the relationship between processing parameters and structural properties of the matrix are not yet clearly established. This doctoral work aims, through an experimental approach supported by (already available) simulations, to provide a better understanding for the design, scale-up and industrial optimization of this process.
Your Work Environment
LCTS is a joint lab of CNRS, Bordeaux University, CEA and Safran, located on the Bordeaux Campus. It has 38 years of experience in basic science research on refractory composites. These high-performance materials are used in aviation, space, energy & industrial applications. LCTS is single research team working in project-oriented mode, in strong relation with its non-academic stakeholders. Currently it includes 34 permanent staff members, plus some 15 PhD candidates and 6 post-doc researchers.
