Job Description
Thesis Subject
Motivation:
Optically trapped particles, isolated from environmental noise by the optical potential, offer an unparalleled platform to explore quantum behavior at mesoscopic scales. Their weak coupling to the environment and precise optical control make them ideal for investigating fundamental quantum phenomena and developing quantum technologies.
Recent Advances:
Recent experiments have demonstrated feedback cooling to the quantum ground state, generation of squeezed states, and coherent control of levitated nanoparticles, paving the way for macroscopic quantum systems.
Proposal:
This PhD will theoretically investigate protocols for the detection and manipulation of optically trapped particles in the quantum limit. We will focus on feedback methods to enhance quantum coherence, explore non-classical state generation (e.g., squeezed states, Schrödinger cat states) as resources for quantum technologies, and assess their potential for fundamental
Your Work Environment
The recruited person will join the Laboratoire Ondes et Matière d'Aquitaine (LOMA) in Bordeaux, within the condensed matter theory team—a dynamic environment where several researchers work on related topics in quantum technologies. This immersion will provide a stimulating scientific framework, ideal for exploring synergies between theory and experiment in this innovative field.
