Description du sujet de thèse
-----
The student will perform sequential stable isotope analysis (SSIA) on the teeth of approximately 100 selected specimens using laser ablation for 87Sr/86Sr in enamel, SSIA for δ18O in enamel, and SSIA for δ34S in dentin. The student will use the existing isoscapes to model seasonal mobility under different climatic conditions, using machine learning approaches based on isotopic data. SSIAs for δ13C, δ15N and δ34S in dentin collagen and δ66Zn in enamel to reconstruct the evolution of seasonal habitats and the diet of individual animals are also envisaged. The results will be compared with palaeogenomic data.
Contexte de travail
The Geosciences Environment Toulouse (GET) laboratory at the Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III and the Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées are looking for a highly qualified and motivated PhD student to join the BasicExtincT project. This three-year project aims to bring together skills in palaeogenomics and isotope geochemistry to elucidate the response of megafaunal species to global warming, focusing on the extinction of the Beringian megafauna at the end of the Pleistocene. This thesis is part of a collaboration with Clément Bataille from the University of Ottawa, Ludovic Orlando from the Centre d'Anthropologie et de Génomique de Toulouse at the Université Paul Sabatier, and Danielle Fraser from the Canadian Museum of Nature. Visits to Ottawa are planned.
