Description du sujet de thèse
This research project will simulate the risks of vegetation and fire in the Landes de Gascogne region of France from the end of the Holocene to 2100. The PhD student will be enrolled at the University of Montpellier. The project seeks to understand how changes in vegetation composition have affected the flammability of the landscape over time. The LANDIS-II forest landscape disturbance and succession model will be used to perform simulations based on palaeoecological data. The student will collaborate with project researchers and a postdoctoral fellow to develop vegetation layers and parameterise the fire model for LANDIS-II.
Contexte de travail
The successful candidate will join the Extreme Environments team at ISEM (UMR 5554). The person will collaborate closely with various partners of the ANR FIRE-LANDES project, including the University of New Mexico (USA), the University of Quebec at Rimouski (Canada), the Chrono-Environnement Laboratory (France) and GEODE (France). Within ISEM, He will be under the supervision of Prof. Adam A. Ali and collaborate closely with Prof. Matthew Hurteau (UNM). He will have access to ISEM's various facilities and technical/IT platforms. Further information on the Extreme Environments team, which will host the successful candidate, is available at https://isem-evolution.fr/equipe/equipe-environnements-extremes/.
