Description du sujet de thèse

The conservation of lagoon complexes and associated coastal wetlands have become major issues in order to guarantee their functions and the services they provide to societies in the context of climate change. With the European Water Framework Directive (2000), the approach based on the ecological restoration of these environments has gradually become dominant with a focus on the issue of the fight against eutrophication in order to achieve good water status. At the European level, the Green Deal policy (2024) and the desire to introduce a Nature Restoration Regulation (NRR) pursue this ambition. This trend has had the consequence of putting forward the notion of the "land/sea continuum", whereas for several years the emphasis has been more on land/lagoon or lagoon/sea links, thus making analyses of the same continuity relatively compartmentalized, from the heads of the watersheds to the maritime spaces. Inlets (graus), considered in this research as hybrid objects, located at the land/sea interface, play a central role in all these connection/continuity processes. For example, their opening/closing strongly conditions both the renewal of water and its quality, the circulation of species in connection with their life cycle, the salinity levels inside the lagoons or the maintenance of economic activities such as fishing, yachting or the transport of passengers and goods. Graus thus find themselves at the heart of a set of interactions located in scales of time and space that are both specific and ambiguous. This project wants to focus on the geographical object of the graus, the cornerstone of the functioning of the lagoons, and aims to find out what is at stake in terms of their current and future management. Four major fields will be addressed to analyze this land/sea continuity and the place of graus in it as a Gordian knot of the multiple interactions that characterize the functioning of these lagoon complexes and coastal wetlands.

Contexte de travail

hosted in the Art-Dev laboratory and will benefit from the available resources as well as the support and assistance of research support staff. He will participate in the life of the laboratory and in all these scientific activities. He will work in close interaction with Stéphane Ghiotti (Senior Researcher at the CNRS in geography) and Vanina Pasqualini (Professor of marine ecology) from the University of Corsica. The future researcher will also be asked to work in close collaboration with the researchers and the three other post-docs attached to the LL MEDCOAST and more generally to the OHM Mediterranean Coast.

Contraintes et risques

As the work takes place on the entire coast of Occitanie and in Corsica, the candidate will be able to move around regularly and independently, the B license (or others) and the possession of a means of transport are required

Informations complémentaires

Expected skills: The candidate will have a solid culture in the humanities and social sciences, having already worked on environmental issues, particularly coastal issues, and will be able to integrate easily and dialogue within research groups where the interdisciplinary dimension (in its broader conception) will be strong. Experiences concerning interactions with "the actors of the territory" will also be particularly appreciated. In technical terms, mastery of cartographic tools, analysis and processing of corpora and data are required in addition to mastery of more traditional office automation tools. Autonomy, initiative and teamwork
