Description of the thesis topic

We propose to use transition metal catalysis for the synthesis of linear and branched polyazanes. We will particularly seek to design decarbonylating coupling reactions of N-N bonds mediated by nickel complexes. These reactions, never described, will make it possible to envisage the assembly of catenated polyazanes with a great atom economy. This will open a vast new structural space of poorly known molecules despite their potential interest as ligands, building-blocks for the synthesis of bioactive molecules, etc.
The candidate must have good knowledge of molecular chemistry. Experience in synthesis and/or organometallic chemistry will be an added advantage. Motivation for research, curiosity and team spirit will be greatly appreciated. Work Context

The thesis will be carried out jointly within the LHCEP – which is a mixed academic/industrial unit (UCBL, CNRS, CNES, ArianeGroup) whose core competence is in the chemistry of nitrogen-rich polynitrogen derivatives – and the ICBMS (UCBL , CNRS, CPE Lyon). It will be placed under the dual direction of Dr. A. Amgoune, specialist in organometallic catalysis and green chemistry – here by nickel compounds – and E. Lacôte, specialist in organic chemistry of the main group – here nitrogen –. The laboratories share buildings on the La Doua campus (Claude Bernard-Lyon 1 University) in Villeurbanne and have modern synthesis laboratories, with all the equipment necessary for the synthesis and study of these new compounds (NMR, DSC, etc). The thesis will therefore provide training in green organic chemistry.
