Job Description
Thesis Subject
This PhD project aims to understand how neuro-immune interactions contribute to the development and vulnerability of sensory neurons in the dorsal root ganglia.
Using Friedreich's ataxia as a disease model, the project will focus on interactions between sensory neurons and resident macrophages during development and disease progression.
The work will combine mouse models, imaging and quantitative analysis approaches, and cellular models to better understand the mechanisms underlying the selective vulnerability of specific neuronal populations.
Your Work Environment
The PhD will be carried out at the Institut NeuroMyoGène, PGNM (CNRS/Inserm/Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1), on the Rockefeller campus in Lyon.
The project will be conducted in a multidisciplinary environment at the interface of developmental biology, neuroscience and neuroimmunology. The work will benefit from access to the institute's facilities and technological platforms for microscopy, cell culture, quantitative analysis and animal experimentation.
The PhD candidate will take part in the scientific activities of the laboratory and the institute and will be encouraged to present their work at scientific meetings and national and international conferences.
Constraints and risks
The project involves experimental work on embryonic and adult mouse tissues, as well as cell culture, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy and quantitative image analysis.
Previous experience in developmental biology or neuroscience is desirable. Hands-on experience with embryonic mouse tissues, dorsal root ganglia, sensory neuron populations, macrophages and/or stem cell-derived cellular models will be considered a strong asset.
The position involves animal experimentation and the handling of biological samples and chemical reagents, in accordance with institutional health and safety regulations. Some experiments may require work at specific times depending on experimental protocols.
