Job Description
Thesis Subject
Structural microbiology: Exopolysaccharide secretion and host colonisation by Gram-negative bacteria
Your Work Environment
Research in microbiology and structural biology; experimental design and execution; scientific literature research and data mining; molecular biology/genetic engineering (cloning, subcloning, mutagenesis, construction of genetically modified strains, genomic libraries, work with non-pathogenic and pathogenic bacteria—including BSL-2 species, etc.); protein (co-)purification; microbiological phenotypic assays; screening of crystallization conditions; preparation of samples for Cryo-EM and cryo-electron tomography; data collection and analysis; communication of results at conferences, scientific workshops, and thesis monitoring committee meetings; university coursework; preparation of the thesis manuscript; thesis defense.
Full-time position funded by the ERC CoG BacFilm grant; standard working hours and/or hours adjusted to project needs. Laboratory location: European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB), Pessac (33600), France. Working conditions: laboratory bench, shared experimental areas, shared office space, personal computer, virtual data storage, and access to software tools for specialized data analysis (e.g., Cryo-EM data, crystallography, etc.).
Constraints and risks
Standard risks associated with work in biological research laboratories: handling of chemical and biochemical substances, pathogenic (BSL-2 level) and non-pathogenic bacteria, electrical equipment, etc.
