Description of the thesis topic
In the framework of an ANR (French National Research Agency) project, the candidate will work on the determination of the structure of a multi-drug ABC-transporter ("ATP-Binding Cassette") using cryoEM. He will develop a method to stabilize this transporter in a membrane mimetic system, to optimize cryoEM grids. He will collect high resolution data and use image processing software to determine the 3D reconstruction.
The project is part of an ANR research program and will be carried out in collaboration with the groups of Jean-Michel Jault (Institute of Biology and Chemistry of Proteins, Lyon), Corinne Lionne (CBS, Montpellier) and Muriel Masi (MCT, Marseille)
Work Context
The successful candidate will join our group at the Institute of Chemistry & Biology of Membranes & Nano-objects (Pessac, Bordeaux) which aims at determining the structure and at understanding the molecular mechanisms of active transport across biological membranes, using biochemical, biophysical and cryoEM approaches.
The position is for 3 years and will be filled as soon as possible. The candidate must have obtained his/her master2 this year or last year. The salary will be in accordance with the CNRS guidelines.
We are looking for a motivated and ambitious person with a Master 2 in biochemistry or biophysics. Experience in biochemistry and membrane reconstruction, electron microscopy is essential; experience in image processing and computing is preferable. Applicants should be able to take initiatives and responsibility within the work environment.
