Job Description

Thesis Subject

During gastrulation, mesoderm and endoderm tissues invade the interior of the embryo, in a mode of collective migration closely related to cancer metastasis. Our goal is to tackle the cellular basis of this process using the unique advantages of the Xenopus embryo (Kashkooli et al, 2021, Rozema et al, 2025). For this purpose, we use a multidisciplinary approach, combining state-of-the-art techniques in cell biology (high resolution live microscopy), biophysics (force measurements), and computer simulation. The aim of the doctorate project will be to study the dynamics and regulation of cadherin cell-cell adhesion molecules during migration. The characterization will span multiple scales, from the characterization of embryonic phenotypes to the in vitro dissection of migratory and adhesive properties of explanted tissues, using a variety of assays established by the team.

Your Work Environment

The project will be carried out within the Fagotto team, in close collaboration with the David team (Polytechnique, Paris). Prof. Fagotto and the team's lab manager will be directly responsible for the PhD student's practical training. All techniques have been optimized by the team. In addition to weekly team meetings, regular meetings will be organized with collaborator Nicolas David and his team to discuss all aspects of the project. A committee will be established to monitor research progress through annual meetings. Furthermore, the PhD student will regularly present their research progress at internal CRBM seminars.
