Job Description

Thesis Subject

The aim of the thesis project is to study how proteins interact with lipid droplets -- cellular organelles involved in the storage of neutral lipids, how this interaction is affected by changes in lipid composition of lipid droplets. Furthermore, we wish to understand the impact of changes in lipid droplet-protein interaction on proteing aggregation linked to degenerative disease. For this, we will use different model system, from pure reconstituted systems to the budding yeast and the fruit fly animal model.

Your Work Environment

The Montpellier Cell Biology Research Center – CRBM (UMR 5237 between CNRS and the University of Montpellier) is organised in 18 research teams, technological platforms and common services, and counts about 150 people (researchers and teacher-researchers, engineers, technicians and administrative staff, PhD students and post-doctoral fellows). CRBM (www.crbm.cnrs.fr) offers an exciting scientific environment that is shared with other institutes on the same campus (IGMM, IRIM). Work at the institute is supported by cutting-edge technical platforms of BioCampus Montpellier (www.biocampus.cnrs.fr/index.php/en), including the MRI imaging platform equipped with the most advanced microscopes and dedicated staff. The PhD student (M/F) will join Alenka Copic's team, “Cell biology of lipid storage and transfer”. We use various cellular and biochemical models to understand how proteins interact with membranes to control the distribution and storage of lipids in eukaryotic cells. The project will be co-direct by Luc Bousset (CNRS, Neuro-Bicêtre, Université Paris-Saclay), expert in protein aggregation and structural biology. The PhD student will be enrolled in the doctoral school CBS2 at Université de Montpellier.
