Description of the thesis topic

Membrane transporters play an important role in cellular physiology and human pathology, and constitute important targets in drug and therapeutics development. This project aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms of function and pharmacology of membrane transporters
The following will be the essential activities for this project:
-Development of protocols for membrane protein expression and purification in different heterologous systems. Including small- and large-scale cultures of mammalian cells.
-Development and maintenance of protein solubilization and stability screens, as well as functional assays.
-Perform protein crystallization screens, and contribute to the design of crystal optimization methods
-Crystal diffraction screens, and data collection at X-ray synchrotron sources in France and abroad.

Work Context

The PhD program will be develop in the context of the CNRS UMR 5234 Microbiologie fondamentale et pathogénicité and the Doctoral school of the life sciences and health at the University of Bordeaux, in the group of Nicolas Reyes. This is a dynamic and international team specialized in molecular mechanisms of membrane proteins and transporters. The team works in English, and we are looking for a highly motivated candidate with knowledge on expertimental aspects of membrane protein biophysics, who has been accepted at the Doctoral school of the life sciences and health at the University of Bordeaux
The research team of DR Reyes is located at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IEB) in Pessac
