Job Description

Thesis Subject

Call for a PhD position in Cognitive Science at the Institute of Cognitive Science Marc Jeannerod (Lyon) under the direction of Jean-Remy Hochmann and Liuba Papeo.

The position is fully funded for 3 years and can start as early as November 2026. The PhD project will investigate the representation of social and non-social events in the human mind/brain with a focus on one (or more) of these questions: early representation in infants, format of representation and neural correlates in human infants and adults (fMRI, EEG and/or fNIRS methodologies).

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with: a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Cognitive Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or a related field, interested in interdisciplinary approaches to understanding human cognition, experience with experimental research and data analysis, and proficient in written and spoken English. Good programming skills (e.g. Python, R, or MATLAB) and previous experience with EEG/fNIRS/fMRI/eye-tracking/computational modelling are desirable.

If any student in your circle may be interested, please encourage them to contact me (liuba.papeo@gmail.com) and/or Jean-Remy (jr.hochmann@gmail.com) for an informal discussion.
