Job Description
Thesis Subject
The PhD student will investigate the interactions between chromatin factors involved in the regulation of developmental genes in plants (using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model organism). To this end, the PhD student will be tasked with developing molecular and genetic approaches and tools to study the interactions between the chromatin components of interest. He or she will also carry out epigenomic and interactomic analyses across different genetic backgrounds.
Required qualifications: Master's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology or a Master's degree in Plant Biology.
Required skills: Knowledge of molecular biology techniques (in particular molecular cloning, RT-qPCR and Western blot); a basic understanding of plant genetics and transgenic analysis would be an advantage.
Other skills: Fluent in English (writing, oral). Team-spirit and open-minded.
Your Work Environment
The PhD student will be enrolled at the UGA's Doctoral School of Chemistry and Life Sciences (EDCSV) and will be part of the ChromDev team (http://www.lpcv.fr/en/ChromDev) at the Laboratory of Cellular and Plant Physiology (UMR 5168 – CNRS – CEA – Univ. Grenoble Alpes – INRAE) in Grenoble. The team's projects aim to gain a better understanding of the chromatin dynamics that regulate developmental transitions, using a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses in vivo phenotypic analyses, omics studies (epigenomics, transcriptomics, interactomics) and the in vitro characterisation of molecular interactions; and, in collaboration with the Institute of Structural Biology (Grenoble), 3D structures of protein complexes. The PhD student will be based at the Polygone campus in Grenoble, a vibrant environment for biological research, close to several institutes such as the IBS, IRIG, ESRF and EMBL. The LPCV Institute employs around 100 people and has state-of-the-art equipment in molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology and imaging. It has plant culture facilities enabling all stages of molecular genetics research to be carried out on Arabidopsis.
Constraints and risks
The PhD student will work according to a schedule drawn up in consultation with his.her supervisors, which will be adjusted as the project progresses and new findings emerge. He or she will work the hours agreed in accordance with the terms of his.her contract (full-time), during the centre's regular opening hours.
