Job Description

Thesis Subject

This Ph.D is part of an ANR project funded starting in October 2026 that aims to understand the mechanisms involved in the formation of the nuclear architecture immediately after mitosis by combining experimental, theoretical, and computational approaches. The challenge lies in identifying the mechanisms involved in telomere movements during nuclear expansion as well as in the formation of chromosomal territories. The Ph.D work will consist of two roughly equal contributions. An experimental contribution involving the study of cell nuclei in vivo using super-resolution microscopy (Hi-D technique), reconstructing the trajectories of chromatin and telomeres, and fitting physical models to the data. A numerical and theoretical contribution involving the simulation of chromatin, telomeres, and the nuclear envelope (Brownian motion, Monte Carlo) and the refinement of this model using analytical approaches. It will then be compared with the experimental data.

Your Work Environment

This thesis in biophysics will be conducted in two laboratories in Toulouse: the statistical physics team led by M. Manghi at the LPT and the biology team led by K. Bystricky. The two teams have been collaborating for four years and have already co-supervised a Ph.D student. The candidate must therefore hold a master's degree in physics and have an interest in biophysics. Skills in numerical methods and/or in-vivo imaging would be a significant plus.
