Job Description
Thesis Subject
The objective of this position is to develop a robust and efficient framework that integrates a wide range of neutrino and dark matter models, with the goal of assessing their effects on large-scale structure (LSS) statistics, as measured by the power spectrum and bispectrum of galaxies or intensity maps. The project places particular emphasis on spectroscopic galaxy surveys—especially the analysis of data from ESA's Euclid mission—as well as on 21 cm intensity mapping, notably using observations from the SKA Observatory (SKAO).
LAPTh (CNRS/USMB) invites expressions of interest for a PhD position in theoretical cosmology, focused on constraining dark matter and neutrino models using observations of large-scale structure.
The PhD activities will involve generalizing existing analytical methods—particularly the Effective Field Theory of Large-Scale Structure (EFTofLSS)—to include the effects of massive neutrinos and non-standard dark matter, validating theoretical predictions using simulated datasets, forecasting the expected constraints from Euclid and SKAO, and ultimately analyzing Euclid's spectroscopic galaxy sample in its second data release.
Your Work Environment
LAPTh is a joint research unit (UMR) of the CNRS and Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB). Its scientific activities cover cosmology and astroparticles, particle physics, and mathematical physics. The cosmology and astroparticle team conducts research on large-scale cosmic structure, the cosmic microwave and infrared backgrounds, cross-correlations between cosmological datasets, the physics of the primordial Universe, cosmic-ray propagation and dark matter, gamma-ray bursts, as well as astrophysical probes of neutrinos.
This position is funded by DarkES, a joint ANR–DFG research project supported by the French and German national research funding agencies, and co-led by Dr. Azadeh Moradinezhad (LAPTh) and Prof. Julien Lesgourgues (RWTH Aachen University).
