Description of the thesis topic

The successful candidate will work on the development of novel approches for the study of RNA conformational dynamics. He/She will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on the description of flexible RNA at unprecedented resolution and will be involved in methodological developments regarding sample preparation, NMR spectroscopy and data analysis.

The project involves activities in the development of the three central aspects of the projects: (i) chemistry and biochemistry for the production and purification of RNA of interests with adequate labelling (ii) dynamic measurements using high field NMR spectroscopy of RNA alone or in interaction and (iii) data analysis of RNA and modelling at coarse grained or atomic resolution.

The candidate is expected to hold a Master in structural biology, chemistry, biophysics or any related field. The ideal candidate would have already have skills in biomolecule preparation and purification, NMR spectroscopy, molecular dynamics and/or data analysis. He/She will be capable of creative thinking and good communication. He/She is expected to be proactive and autonomous while willing to work in team.

Work Context

The candidate will join the team of Loïc Salmon, working on nucleic acid dynamic by NMR spectroscopy. This is a young and dynamic team currently supported by the ERC. The team is part of the Very High Field NMR Center in Lyon (https://www.crmn-lyon.fr/) a word-wide leading NMR center (spectrometers up to 1GHz, liquid, solid, DNP). The CRMN is a scientific institute affiliated with the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research), the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon (a worldwide leading institution in teaching and research) and the Lyon University. The CRMN hosts word-leading research groups, provides excellent working conditions and is located in Lyon, one of the most dynamic French city, internationally recognised for its life quality.
