Job Description

Thesis Subject

The energy, economic, and environmental transition requires transforming a society that still depends on fossil fuels into one based on sustainable energy sources. Inorganic materials play a central role in this transformation, particularly in energy storage through batteries, which are essential for addressing the intermittency of renewable energy sources and for decarbonizing transportation.

The objective of this project is to develop new solid electrolyte materials for the design of more sustainable all-solid-state batteries.

The student will conduct their research at the ICMCB (Institute of Condensed Matter Chemistry of Bordeaux), a joint research unit of the CNRS, the University of Bordeaux, and Bordeaux INP. The institute specializes in solid-state chemistry, materials science, and chemical process engineering.

The student will join Group 2, “Energy: Materials and Batteries” (GEMBATT), which focuses on the development of new electrochemical energy storage systems. The group possesses expertise spanning the entire value chain, from the synthesis and advanced characterization of materials, to their processing and integration into various devices, and ultimately to their recycling.

Your Work Environment

Created in 1995, the Bordeaux Institute of Condensed Matter Chemistry (ICMCB) focuses its research on Solid State Chemistry, Materials Science and Chemistry and Process: designing, preparing, shaping and characterizing materials in order to discover, control and optimize specific functions. The ICMCB carries out fundamental research on model materials and/or materials with potential applications.
The ICMCB is a UMR with an average of 280 agents (permanent and non-permanent), with 3 tutelles, hosted by the CNRS and in total ZRR. The position is located in a sector covered by the Protection of Scientific and Technical Potential (PSTP), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that the arrival of the agent be authorized by the competent authority of MESR.

Constraints and risks

No risks other than those inherent to the practice of solid-state chemistry.
