Description of the thesis topic
Faced with the imminent multidimensional crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and growing inequalities, there is an urgent need to enable societal transformation for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and nature's contributions to people. It is therefore important to understand the transformative changes needed to build a sustainable and equitable coastal and marine future that is resilient to the vagaries of ocean basins, particularly in African ocean basins. The doctoral student will be required to:
- Anticipate and understand coastal and marine socio-ecological tipping points at different scales in African ocean basins.
- Help establish anticipatory governance to ensure that actions to realize transformative visions take into account multi-scale temporal and spatial dynamics.
