Work Context

The HORIZON EUROPE MSCA COFUND project Doctorate programme on Emerging battery Storage Technologies INspiring Young scientists (DESTINY2, https://www.destiny-phd.eu/) is opening 24 doctoral positions hosted by universities, research centres, and laboratories in France (17), Spain (3), Germany (1), Italy (1), Poland (1), and Slovenia (1). Selected candidates will start their doctoral course in October 2026.

Aligned to the roadmap of the HORIZON EUROPE Coordination and Support Action Battery 2030+, DESTINY2 is a highly interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and cutting-edge research programme on future batteries and wider challenges pertaining to energy storage. It delivers training that will position its graduates at the forefront of research and industrial competitiveness areas such as electro-mobility and large-scale energy storage. These are crucial sectors to achieve the EU's objectives of decarbonisation, digitalisation, and strategic autonomy. The programme is committed to the principles of Open Science and is designed to uphold the highest research quality standards.

DESTINY2 is coordinated by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). The DESTINY2 consortium includes 15 laboratories that will host researchers and 7 associated partners, hosting researchers during their secondments and contributing to the programme's training. It builds on the success of the DESTINY programme which has trained 50 doctoral researchers between 2020 and 2026. The large consortium is composed of Universities, Research centres, Large Scale Facilities and Industry companies located in 12 European countries.

Successful candidates will be trained to become future leaders in battery technologies. They will work with and develop interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, such as modelling and artificial intelligence, advanced electrochemical analysis techniques, characterization, and materials synthesis. They will become part of a very strong community structured around the long-existing European academic-industry network ALISTORE, and will join cutting-edge teams developing the batteries of the future.

The programme covers a wide range of topics, from material synthesis for all-solid-state batteries to process modelling for battery manufactory and the development of transition-metal complexes-based Redox flow batteries. All DESTINY2 positions imply mobility between at least two institutions. The PhD living allowance in each country will be a minimum gross salary of €3,300 per month, including employer/employee social security contributions, which corresponds to approximately €2,398 per month excluding social security contributions. Salaries vary by country according to national legislation. You can find more information about it in the “Guide for Applicants”. You will find the description of the 24 research topics and their specificities on https://www.destiny-phd.eu/DESTINY2-topics-Cohort-1.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
