Job Description
Summary of the scientific project
The emergence of systemic approaches to the study of the critical zone has introduced new challenges: the need to detect dynamic interactions between humans, living organisms, and abiotic elements at relevant spatial and temporal resolutions. This junior professorship (CPJ) aims to define the role of new technologies and concepts (frugality, low-tech, additive manu-facturing) in addressing socio-environmental transition challenges, with the goal of enhancing in-situ observation systems in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and resilience. The new sen-sors may be physical, chemical, or biological. They will be tested under near-natural condi-tions to assess their robustness and to help build a new community of practice. Key objectives also include optimizing energy autonomy, integrating embedded intelligence (AI), enabling data transfer (IoT), and improving sensor usability
Summary of the teaching project
The teaching duties at the affiliated university will take the form of a “mission to support ob-servation,” positioned at the interface between the OSUs and the OZCAR research infrastruc-ture. This mission will aim to establish a policy to address the challenges of integrating, archi-ving, and distributing very large volumes of data generated by the new acquisition technolo-gies developed in the project. A major objective is the systematic FAIRification of observatio-nal data, which involves a high standard of data and service quality in close collaboration with the infrastructures and OSUs that collect the data. This will notably involve adapting procedures to efficiently archive and make large volumes of data available to the scientific community in an interoperable way, in line with current international standards, while also im-proving the quality control of these data.
Your Profil
Profile Required
Holders of a doctorate or a PhD or equivalent degree or applicants who have gained scientific qualifications or carried out scientific work deemed to be of an equivalent level. There is no restriction on the age or nationality of applicants. All CNRS positions are accessible to people with disabilities, with special arrangements for tests made necessary by the nature of the disability
Your Work Environment
Host Lab Strategy
The position focuses on developing new concepts of frugal, low-tech instrumentation for envi-ronmental observation. The aim is to define the role of new technologies in addressing socio-environmental transition challenges, within the EquipEx+ Terra Forma project and in connec-tion with the Data Terra research infrastructure (and EquipEx+ Data Gaia). The candidate will draw on existing infrastructures, notably the Observatories of the Sciences of the Universe (OSU) network, and on the RENATECH micro- and nanotechnology platforms to develop components, sub-systems and systems for field deployment. Main OSUs involved: OMP, OSERen and OSUG. Main institutions: Université Toulouse Paul Sabatier and Université de Rennes. Relevant INSU/INSIS laboratories: GET, LAAS and CESBIO (Toulouse site); Geo-sciences Rennes and IETR (Rennes site); IGE (Grenoble site).
Institution Strategy
This CNRS chair, of an interdisciplinary nature, is designed at the interface of CNRS insti-tutes—the National Institute for Earth Sciences and Astronomy (INSU) and the Institute for Engineering and Systems Sciences (INSIS)—and is also connected to the CNRS Mission for Transversal and Interdisciplinary Initiatives (MITI). The targeted laboratories eligible to host this tenure-track position (CPJ) are already involved in this area through the EquipEx+ Terra Forma initiative. This thematic area is also supported by national actions, particularly the na-tional workshops on 'Instrumentation for Environmental Monitoring' and the professional net-work 'Environmental Sensors'
International Strategy
This chair is directly linked to the involvement of INSU and INSIS in European research in-frastructures. The recruited candidate will be expected to lead international partnerships fo-cused on the design of innovative, intelligent, and connected sensors, as well as data exploita-tion and the organization of observation campaigns involving these developments. Regular observations and measurement campaigns will be conducted on existing field sites and plat-forms, which have demonstrated over the past ten years their ability to train a pool of outstan-ding young researchers in the development of new instruments, novel analysis methods, and modeling approaches—potential candidates for this position

Research Policy
Open Science
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
Science and society
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
Scientific dissemination
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
