Job Description

Summary of the scientific project

The CPJ will focus on mobility and transport, articulating the questions of transitions and reduction of social and spatial inequalities, around the following themes:
- Sustainable and inclusive mobility behaviors and practices: construction and uses of transport modes, particularly active modes, in diverse territorial contexts (urban, peri-urban, rural; North/South)
- Mobility systems and territories: public policies, collective transport offer, alternative mobility, sharing of traffic lanes, land uses, planning, new urban forms, “15-minute city”, sobriety, efficiency, equity.
The work will be international, requiring language skills to integrate international academic networks. The research will use qualitative, quantitative and/or mixed methods, with reflec-tion on their academic and socio-economic uses.

Summary of the teaching project

Teaching responsibilities will be determined based on existing courses at each site. He or she will participate in existing degree programs, such as master's programs, in which LAET members are heavily involved. The candidate will explain how he or she envisions integrating his or her research practice with, on the one hand, research training (Master's and doctoral programs) and, on the other hand, research-based training for future mobility practitioners. He or she will specify his or her ambitions and vision regarding doctoral supervision.

Host Lab Strategy

LAET is a research unit specializing in spatial planning and transport economics, whose work focuses on the interactions between mobility, transport, territories, and society, with a strong emphasis on transition issues. The mobility of people and goods is studied both as a research object in its own right and as a lens through which to examine other issues relating to space, territories, individuals, and society.
Its research is structured around three main areas: (1) Mobility practices and behaviors – modal choices, innovation, and inequalities; (2) Spaces and territories – locations, new forms of urbanity, and resilience; (3) Public mobility policies – policy design, evaluation, and regula-tion in contexts of instability.
Through its history, its field sites, and its ongoing collaborations with researchers from Europe, Africa, and North and South America, as well as the quality and visibility of its work, LAET is recognized as a leading research center at the international level.

Institution Strategy

Research on transport and mobility is part of the CNRS scientific strategy, which aims to strengthen its presence on major social and environmental transition issues, across two interrelated fields (transport/mobility) that call for partnership-based approaches as well as technological and economic innovation.
The main objective of the CPJ will be to contribute to coordinated and collaborative research within the CNRS, particularly through the COMP, in which the CNRS has identified “transitions” as a major cross-cutting challenge. Indeed, the current challenge for research on mobility and transport is to take into account economic, social, and political transition imperatives in order to move toward ecological and environmental transition and reduce their share of greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, the articulation between these issues as they arise in different international contexts and the multiplicity of responses that exist at the local level requires particularly advanced expertise.
This CPJ also responds to the ambition of CNRS Humanities and Social Sciences to recruit a colleague which the capacity to lead research at the interface between geography, spatial planning, ecology, sociology, and/or political science, in order to contribute to collective reflections on transport and mobility. In particular, this includes strengthening its interdisciplinary grounding on changes in mobility behaviours, on the making of public policies, and on the renewal of approaches in transport economics in connection with transitions. This work will feed into collective initiatives around scientific foresight within the institute and align with the cross-cutting effort developed around the links between research and public policy.

International Strategy

The Chair holder will be expected to implement actions and set up partnerships in the given thematic field and particularly to commit to submitting a project in the framework of European calls for proposals like ERC, Horizon Europe Consortium, Driving Urban transitions partnership, etc. during the 5 years of his/her contract.

Research Policy

Open Science

The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.

Science and society

The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system.

Scientific dissemination

The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
