Job Description

Summary of the scientific project

To move beyond polarized discourse, LABORIA refocuses the analysis on "real work." AI is transforming activities and power relations, acting as a catalyst for other shifts, such as those that are ecological and demographic in nature. Through case studies, comparative approaches, or diachronic monitoring, this research may explore the following:
• Organization, agency, and power: Effects on employer-employee dynamics, territo-ries, and skills. How do workers appropriate or resist these tools?
• Health and social differentiation: Impacts on the meaning of work, cognitive load, and psychosocial risks. Intersectional analysis of inequalities.
Regulations: Adaptation of labour law in the face of diverse AI applications. Ethics and principles for deployment that ensures sustainable work.
Grounded in a political analysis centered on social justice and organizational democracy, LABORIA will collaborate with stakeholders in the field (unions and companies) to produce actionable knowledge.
Laboria is a homonym of a structure co-supported by INRIA and the Ministry of Labor, but the CNRS CPJ offer is unrelated to it

Summary of the teaching project

Teaching will be discussed according to the site which the successful candidate is assigned to. He/She will be involved in teaching on existing courses at each site.

Host Lab Strategy

The four potential host laboratories, the COMPTRASEC, LEST, TSM-R and IDHES, cover various disciplinary fields: law, political science, sociology, history, economics and management. They were selected based on:
a) their key role in research on work which provides an ecosystem conducive to the implementation of the proposed scientific project;
b) their integration into an academic environment that is particularly promising in these fields.

Institution Strategy

This CPJ (Junior Research Chair) is part of one of the thematic priorities that CNRS SHS (Humanities and Social Sciences) aims to emphasize within a multi-year recruitment strategy through CPJ, at the intersection of law, economics, political science, management sciences, territorial sciences, and sociology: specifically political studies and studies of the forms of so-cial life.
Following multidisciplinary work initiated in 2022, which led a group of interdisciplinary re-search laboratories to produce a state of knowledge in the humanities and social sciences and a white paper dedicated to research on work, CNRS Sciences humaines & sociales is now offering a CPJ on this topic.
This CPJ highlights a key research challenge arising from this collective reflection. Indeed, the rapid development of artificial intelligence is profoundly reshaping the landscape of work—eliminating or transforming certain tasks and even entire professions, giving rise to new jobs or new ways of working, redefining work relationships and collaboration with machines, altering power dynamics between employers and employees, creating risks of exclusion, psychologi-cal risks, or mass career transitions, and raising new questions in terms of responsibility.

International Strategy

The Chair holder will be expected to implement actions and set up partnerships in the given thematic field and particularly to commit to submitting a project in the framework of European calls for proposals like ERC, Horizon Europe Consortium, etc. during the 5 years of his/her contract.

Research Policy

Open Science

The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.

Science and society

The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project's socio-economic and cultural eco-system.

Scientific dissemination

The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
