Stratégie d'établissement
This CNRS tenure-track position is proposed with the aim of strengthening the research capabilities of French teams that have long been involved in the study of palaeoenvironments in France and in different regions of the world (e.g. Western and Central Europe, the Mediterranean world, Africa). Faced with growing and long-term scientific needs, it seems necessary to strengthen the “paleo” communities that can contribute, through their expertise on the past, to the current problem of the Earth's habitability in order to understand the present and anticipate the future (livre blanc “paléoclimats et paléoenvironnements », CNRS INSU, 2024, https://www.calameo.com/read/0064605873cfcaba812c7
Stratégie du laboratoire d'accueil
The strategy of the host laboratories is to strengthen the research potential in Quaternary geology/geoarchaeology and to take advantage of recent advances in methods for investigating surface formations (geomorphology, sedimentology, geochemistry, bioindicators, 2D/3D geomatics, construction and use of databases), dating methods (U-Th, luminescence, ESR, cosmogenic radiocarbon nuclides, Bayesian modelling), non-destructive characterisation methods (2D-3D geo-physical imaging and X-ray tomography) and concepts (integrated site-river approach, sedimentation models, taphonomy, developments, current reference systems). The aim is to renew the understanding of Pleistocene and Holocene environments through research into site-scale dynamics and the impact of environmental factors on human settlements during the Quaternary periods.
Stratégie Internationale
The objective of this CNRS tenure-track position is to recruit a young scientist with an international reputation and strong potential for supervising young French and foreign students. The selected candidate will also be expected to strengthen and develop links with national and international partners in Quaternary geology/geoarchaeology. He/she will be expected to implement initiatives and partnerships in the thematic field and to commit to submitting a project within the framework of European calls (ERC, Horizon Europe Consortium, etc.) over the 5 years of his/her contract.

Résumé du projet scientifique
The research areas to be developed will focus on (i) chronostratigraphy and the reconstruction of environments from sedimentary archives, (ii) the role of natural processes in the formation of sites and the structuring of landscapes, and their geometric and taphonomic evolution over time, (iii) the impact of bio-physical and geo-chemical factors on settlement dynamics, particularly during periods of rapid climatic change in the Quaternary, and (iv) the role of palaeoenvironmental change in the emergence and spread of the oldest Palaeolithic cultures and Holocene settlement patterns. The selected candidate will have a solid background in geology/geoarchaeology applied to sedimentary archives and their content, and will be proficient in the techniques and methods of high temporal resolution analysis used in sedimentology, geochemistry, geochronology and/or the study of bioindicators.
Résumé du projet d'enseignement
The selected candidate will be involved in existing teaching programmes linked to the research theme at the host laboratory's university site.

Diffusion scientifique
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
Science ouverte
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
Science et société
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
Indicateurs
The activity will be evaluated in particular on the basis of scientific production (publications, software, patents, etc.), on institutional and private partnerships formalized by contracts, on international presence, on the promotion of work to multidisciplinary scientific communities, on innovation and its transfer to society and on scientific dissemination to non-specialist audiences.
