Stratégie d'établissement
The CNRS conducts multidisciplinary research aimed at advancing science and contributing to the economic, social, and cultural development of the country. It plays a central role in research on magnetic confinement fusion, coordinating the Fusion Research Federation (FR FCM) and partnering with the CEA within the framework of the PEPR SupraFusion, which supports the development of fusion reactors, such as ITER in Cadarache. The CNRS aims to strengthen its scientific expertise in upstream fusion research, particularly through the M2P2, IUSTI, and PIIM laboratories, located in Marseille.
Stratégie du laboratoire d'accueil
M2P2, recognized for its work on the modeling and simulation of fusion plasmas, develops numerical methods and algorithms to optimize fluid and kinetic models, and uses AI for experiment analysis and the design of reduced models.
PIIM focuses on the experimentation of magnetized plasmas, modeling instabilities and turbulence, and atomic physics. It uses AI to reduce models and conducts research on plasma/wall interactions and materials science. It collaborates with the CEA and ITER.
IUSTI works on plasma/wall interaction and heat extraction for tokamaks by developing thermal measurement methods and multiphysics numerical models. Its research aims to improve the understanding of thermal fluxes on components exposed to plasma and to assess the properties of materials under extreme conditions. It participates in the operation of the WEST tokamak at IRFM.
Stratégie Internationale
The CNRS is a key player in international science. Across the globe, CNRS teams collaborate with the best laboratories, and each year, top-level foreign researchers join it. Its international policy aims to enhance the impact and relevance of its research. This is why the CNRS encourages and supports the development of international research projects, particularly in Europe (ERC and EIC), as well as collaborative exchanges (IEA, IRP, IRN).

Résumé du projet scientifique
The construction of the ITER tokamak and advancements by startups are steps toward the development of future fusion power plants capable of producing low-carbon energy. Optimizing the confinement of a thermonuclear plasma in the core by controlling heat/particle fluxes to the walls requires significant efforts in magnetic fusion research with complex physical mechanisms involving turbulence, matter/heat transport, energetic particle physics, atomic physics, and materials research. This demands an approach combining plasma modeling and simulation, experimentation on magnetic confinement fusion devices, as well as advancements in measurement science and technology to analyze thermal fluxes and characterize the behavior and evolution of material properties. The position aims to strengthen fundamental research in one or more of these disciplinary areas.
Résumé du projet d'enseignement
The candidates must propose a teaching project (28 hours of lectures or 42 hours of practical or tutorial sessions) related to the theme of the MagFusion Junior Professor Chair. The candidate will be expected to integrate into the educational activities at all levels within the departments of physics and/or mechanics at Aix-Marseille University. This teaching project will be discussed and finalized after recruitment with Aix-Marseille University.

Diffusion scientifique
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
Science ouverte
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
Science et société
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
Indicateurs
The activity will be evaluated in particular on the basis of scientific production (publications, software, patents, etc.), on institutional and private partnerships formalized by contracts, on international presence, on the promotion of work to multidisciplinary scientific communities, on innovation and its transfer to society and on scientific dissemination to non-specialist audiences.
