Stratégie d'établissement

China's central role in our contemporary world is self-evident as regards France or the whole of Europe. Through the scientific policy of CNRS Humanities & Social Sciences, the CNRS strives to develop methods dedicated to areal studies, comparative and transnational approaches. The organisation also supports research firmly grounded in specific spaces and contexts and national networks in different parts of the world. In this general context, the CNRS and its academic partners share the idea that our understanding of contemporary China, the country's internal dynamics and the implications of China's transformations for international issues needs to be enhanced through a targeted recruitment policy and despite the regular recruitment of China specialists over the last 15 years. This policy has also been part of a collaborative effort by CNRS Humanities & Social Sciences for the past 2 years aimed at enhancing knowledge of contemporary China through the creation of an innovative research tool - a technical platform intended to lead to the creation of a Chinese web archive structured for research purposes (Chine-COREF). The objective of recruiting this CPJ is to reinforce or complement the Institute's scientific skills, particularly in the fields of mobility and social restructuring along with new stratifications (family structures, social groups), territories and natural environments. Finally another aim is to open up the overall theme to include issues linked to artistic creation and cultural and religious practices.

Stratégie du laboratoire d'accueil

The host laboratories may or not not be specialists on China. If they are not, putting the research carried out at the laboratory into the Chinese perspective will be an asset for working on cross-disciplinary scientific questions involving China. Conversely, the research carried out by these laboratories enables a specialisation in contemporary China to be put into perspective with research questions that are central to the Institute's disciplines, particularly art, creative processes, cultural policies and artistic expressions.
These laboratories cover a set of disciplines ranging through anthropology, sociology, political science, territorial science, art, media to literature. They are under the joint supervisory authority of institutions with which CNRS Humanities & Social Sciences wishes to develop relations or already has a special relationship in this field of research, particularly linked to the work carried out in the last 2 years in the framework of the COREF.

Stratégie Internationale

The Chairholder will be expected to implement actions and set up partnerships in the given thematic field and particularly to commit to submitting a project in the framework of European calls for proposals like ERC, Horizon Europe Consortium, etc. during the 5 years of his/her contract. A stay of two to four months at the CEFC UMIFRE (a joint unit with a French Institute abroad) in Hong Kong is encouraged.

Résumé du projet scientifique

Contemporary China and its place in the world can only be fully understood through intimate knowledge of the country's internal dynamics along with its social and cultural transformations. The research expected will focus on Chinese society and changes therein. It may deal with different aspects of such changes: from the private sphere (family, gender, generation) to the public sphere (from local initiatives and associations to exchanges between individuals); from internal to transnational migrations; from forms of urbanisation to new forms of rurality; from the world of work to the world outside the workplace; from dynamics of cultural heritage to expressions of forms of religiosity and cultural practices. This research will also focus on the artistic, literary and media-based expressions of such transformations, on relations with the political sphere and on artistic creation inside and outside China.

Résumé du projet d'enseignement

Teaching will be discussed according to the site which the successful candidate is assigned to. He/she will be involved in teaching on existing courses at each site.

Environnement Financier

  • Total financé (dont package ANR) : 200 k€

Diffusion scientifique

The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.

Science ouverte

The CNRS has adopted a strong policy in favour of open science. Open science consists in making research results "as accessible as possible and as closed as necessary". To achieve this, the CNRS objective is for 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its units to be in open access, particularly through researchers submitting them to HAL. The data produced should also be made available and reusable unless specific restrictions apply. In addition, the guidelines on the individual evaluation of researchers have been revised to conform with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take all facets of a researcher's work into account.

Science et société

The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project's socio-economic and cultural eco-system.

Indicateurs

In particular, the CPJ's activities will be assessed on the basis of scientific output (publications, software, patents, etc.), institutional and private partnerships with formal contracts, international influence, the promotion and dissemination of work to multi-disciplinary scientific communities, innovation and its transfer to society and scientific dissemination to non-specialist audiences.
