The profile of this Tenure Track is in line with the priority orientations of the CNRS COP in the theme "Mathematics for humans and its interaction with planet Earth", but also in the theme "Artificial Intelligence". The themes of the chair have links with many fields of mathematics (geometry, analysis, group theory, probabilities, etc.) and they are also very present in other sciences. They are often a strong source of multidisciplinarity.

Stratégie du laboratoire d'accueil

The proposed laboratories all have active and dynamic teams in the proposed themes. The recruited candidate will reinforce the research activity of the laboratory.

Stratégie Internationale

The objective of this position is to recruit an internationally recognized personality with a strong potential to supervise young French and foreign students. It will also be intended to strengthen and develop links with international partners.

Résumé du projet scientifique

Dynamical systems first appeared in the 19th century. At first, they answered questions about iterations of continuous functions, or stability of differential equations. It was not until the 1960s that dynamical systems came back in force in French research, with questions related to chaos: understanding how a dynamic is unpredictable. Under the influence of dynamic researchers, the study of dynamical systems quickly gained many French laboratories, and also developed strongly under the influence of Yoccoz, Fields Medal 1994, in the International Research Laboratory of the CNRS "IMPA", in Rio, Brazil, where generations of French researchers have been immersed. The Franco-Brazilian Avila, from IMPA, also won a Fields Medal in 2014 for work in dynamical systems.
Dynamical systems problems are linked to many related theoretical fields: the study of continuous actions of groups (and its application in geometry), or ergodic theory, born from the rise of measure theory and which finds echoes in probability, or analysis.
These theoretical developments of dynamical systems and ergodic theory, and their links with chaos, are also a potential way to better understand the unpredictability that surrounds us, and may one day be able to predict cyclones.

Résumé du projet d'enseignement

The person recruited will be involved in high-level teaching with a mathematical specialization. He/she may be asked to propose interdisciplinary teaching in the themes of the Tenure Track.

Environnement Financier

  • Total financé (dont package ANR) : 200 k€
  • Total du projet : 200 k€

Diffusion scientifique

The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various  targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may  be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.

Science ouverte

The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible  as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.

Science et société

The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system .

Indicateurs

The activity will be evaluated in particular on the basis of scientific production (publications, software, patents, etc.), on institutional and private partnerships formalized by contracts, on international presence, on the promotion of work to  multidisciplinary scientific communities, on innovation and its transfer to society and on scientific dissemination to non-specialist audiences.
