The profile of this Tenure Track is in line with the priority orientations of the CNRS COP in the theme "Mathematics for humans and its interaction with planet Earth", but also in the theme "Artificial Intelligence". The themes of the chair have links with many fields of mathematics (geometry, analysis, group theory, probabilities, etc.) and they are also very present in other sciences. They are often a strong source of multidisciplinarity.

Stratégie du laboratoire d'accueil

The proposed laboratories all have very high quality probability teams. They are all conducting research in the areas covered by the position and this Tenure Track proposal integrates their scientific development strategy.

Stratégie Internationale

The Tenure Track holder will have to implement actions and partnerships in the thematic field and commit to submit a project in the framework of European calls (ERC, Consortium Horizon Europe) during the 5 years of his/her contract.

Résumé du projet scientifique

Since the beginning of the 21st century, probability has received important recognition within the mathematical discipline with the Fields Medals of Wendelin Werner (2006), Stanislav Smirnov (2010), Martin Hairer (2014) or more recently Hugo Duminil-Copin (2022). France has important contributions in this discipline. One thinks for example of statistical physics where percolation, SLE theory, particle systems, Brownian geometry, random maps and all related fields have been developed. There are also major contributions in the field of random media where spin glasses, walks in random media or random matrices are studied. Important advances have been made in stochastic PDEs, regularity theory and rough paths, and more generally in the interaction of probabilities with PDEs. Probability today provides new tools that contribute to other fields of mathematics, but it is also increasingly inspired by abstract algebraic or geometric theories. There is also a renewed interest in more applied fields. Recent world developments and events have shown how much the need for modeling goes far beyond the few quick simulations of the recent past. Just as the numerical world needs strong mathematical statistics, the industrial world, the biological world or the health world need strong mathematical modeling allowing to propose predictions supported by fundamental studies. Since modeling must take uncertainties into account, probabilities play an important role.
The CNRS proposes a Tenure Track in the field of probability, which is a major issue for the mathematical discipline itself and also for other disciplines where it makes a fundamental contribution.

Résumé du projet d'enseignement

The person recruited will be involved in high-level teaching with a mathematical specialization. He/she may be asked to propose interdisciplinary teaching in the themes of the Tenure Track.

Environnement Financier

  • Total financé (dont package ANR) : 200 k€
  • Total du projet : 200 k€

Diffusion scientifique

The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various  targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may  be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.

Science ouverte

The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible  as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.

Science et société

The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project’s socio-economic and cultural eco-system .

Indicateurs

The activity will be evaluated in particular on the basis of scientific production (publications, software, patents, etc.), on institutional and private partnerships formalized by contracts, on international presence, on the promotion of work to  multidisciplinary scientific communities, on innovation and its transfer to society and on scientific dissemination to non-specialist audiences.
