Missions

Located in Lyon (France), the IN2P3/CNRS Computing Centre (CC-IN2P3) is an international data centre providing computing, storage and collaborative services to european and international research communities for scientific research, mainly in the field of high energy physics. More than 4,000 users working on 80 international scientific experiments use its services on a 24x7 basis.

In the process of enforcing its integration to European computing infrastructure, and in the context of the EGI-ACE European project, we aim at setting up a workload management system allowing users to use european-wide computing facilities, hiding the underlying heterogeneity of their computing resources.
This deployement will be made possible by deploying DIRAC, a Workload Management System already used by many research communities on the Grid and providing tools for such distributed computing.
We are currently looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team of experts and to participate into ramping up our facility to make it ready for future research challenges.

Activities

You will be involved in the setup of a DIRAC worload management service (WMS) to be exploited by several sciences communities under the auspices of the EGI European Grid Initiative. You will participate into the deployment of the infrastructure of servers and tools and of the software underlying the WMS. You will setup the environment such as the alerting to ensure a reliable platform and the monitoring for analysing the performances and providing visualization. You will contribute to the day-to-day operations and be in relation with the helpdesk to solve the issues. You will also participate together with the developpers of DIRAC into the upgrade of the platform, deploying and testing new features that can be added to DIRAC to enlarge the service offer.
Aside of this main activity, you will participate into other R&D and other activities related to data processing and computing.
The working environment at CC-IN2P3 is technically challenging and intellectually stimulating as we are currently using or planning to use several technologies including Linux, Python, JupyterLab, Go, git, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenStack cloud, Kafka, high-performance storage systems, relational and non-relational databases, workload management systems, workflow engines, highly distributed systems, high-performance long-distance networks, web-based applications.
We expect the candidate to be familiar or to have already experience with some of these technologies, and be able to gain experience on some of the ones that he is not familiar with but that he will have to use in the context of her/his activities.

Skills

If your background is in sciences, a demonstrated interest or experience for computing activities and specifically for scientific data exploitation is required. Usage of programming languages, including scripting languages and delivering production-level software tools from previous experience is an asset.
Both experienced and highly-motivated junior candidates are encouraged to apply for this position.
Beyond the technical skills, the ideal candidate we are looking for has:
• good social skills, sense of organization and the ability to work within a multicultural, international, geographically distributed team,
• capacity to adapt to the permanently evolving conditions inherent to a scientific enterprise,
• autonomy, creativity, availability,
• good communications skills, both oral and written,
• fair practice of English as a working language, both oral and written
