Missions

The Institute of Complex Systems, Paris Ile-de-France (ISC-PIF, http://iscpif.fr) is looking to recruit a postdoctoral researcher to join the project “FuturICT 2.0” for it challenge “Simulations & Experiments” (https://futurict2.eu/challenges).

The research will focus on understanding individual decision-making, behavior and the formation of preferences in collective settings. The applicant will contribute to the research program at ISC-PIF on the understanding collective social behaviors by means of experiments and modelisation. S|he will join running studies on collective scientific discovery, collective exploration/exploitation processes and spatial social dilemma games. Other research topics might be considered as well if compatible with the Futur ICT 2.0 Program.

Activities

The candidate will contribute to set-up and conduct lab experiments and online large scale experiments, analyze the results and work on the mathematical or computational modeling of the observed phenomena.

Skills

The candidate will have demonstrated expertise in behavioural economics, cognitive science or computational social sciences.

Applicants must have 
• a PhD in Economics, cognitive sciences or a field related to computational social sciences, 
• a strong interest in experimental economics, cognitive economics and social lab experiments,
• good knowledge in applied econometrics/statistics or machine learning
• Experience of working with relevant database structures, such as SQL.
• Knowledge of French or English as a working language
• Bbe comfortable enough in French to supervise an experience with French-speaking subjects.

Work Context

ISC-PIF is a unit of the National Center for Scientific Research (UPS3611), one of the largest and most prestigious French research organizations. It is an interdisciplinary center dedicated to the development of innovative research on complex systems with a strong component in computational social sciences and cognitive sciences.

The position offers an attractive research environment and a dynamic team atmosphere with a €1.5k in conference/travel funding and funds for experiments. The advertised position is a full time, 12 months fixed term research focused position without teaching load. CNRS provides excellent support to maintain a healthy work/life balance, including more than height weeks paid vacation per year.

Constraints and risks

The postholder will be provided with work space at ISC-PIF (113 Rue Nationale, 75013 Paris, France), and will be expected to relocate to Paris (or commuting distance) for the duration of the post. Costs related to relocation or visa applications cannot be covered.

In the case of a foreign application, the applicant must already have a work visa enabling him/her to take up his/her duties on 1 January 2020.
