Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will join Stefano Marzi's team at CNRS UPR9002 (Strasbourg) within the ANR SatRNAsPG project, focused on structural and functional analysis of FemXAB–tRNAsGly–lipid II complexes involved in peptidoglycan synthesis and methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus.
The candidate will work under the direct supervision of the project coordinator and contribute to an interdisciplinary program combining RNA biology, biochemistry, biophysics, and bacterial genetics.
Activity
Main activities will include:
Purification of native S. aureus tRNAs and analysis of RNA modifications (LC-MS/MS, RNA-seq approaches)
Purification of Fem proteins and assembly of ribonucleoprotein complexes
Biophysical characterization (SEC, DLS, MALS, SAXS, native MS)
RNA–protein interaction assays (EMSA, DRaCALA, RIP)
S. aureus genetics (mutant strains, tagged proteins) and phenotypic analyses
Investigation of crosstalk between peptidoglycan synthesis and translation, notably via the shared glycyl-tRNA synthetase (GlyRS)
Participation in structural studies (cryo-EM, X-ray in collaboration)
Dissemination of results through publications and presentations
Your Profil
Skills
- Recent PhD in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or related fields
- Strong background in protein and/or RNA biochemistry
- Interest in structural and functional biology
- Experience in RNA biology, RNA modifications, or biophysics is a plus
- Good command of written and spoken English (French not required)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong analytical, organizational, and scientific writing skills
- Experience in bacterial translation regulation is a plus
Your Work Environment
CNRS UPR9002 is a research unit in Strasbourg dedicated to RNA regulation in diverse organisms, including bacteria, viruses, and eukaryotes.
The postdoctoral researcher will join a group specifically focused on pathogenic bacteria, combining RNA biology, biochemistry, and structural approaches to investigate molecular mechanisms of bacterial adaptation and virulence.
The position is part of a collaborative national ANR project with several partners and provides access to state-of-the-art facilities (cryo-EM, mass spectrometry, sequencing platforms).
The site is easily accessible by public transport. CNRS benefits include subsidized meals, partial transport reimbursement, and paid leave.
