Job Description

Missions

This research uses TEM (post-mortem analysis of samples from creep tests, along with in situ TEM tensile testing) to investigate the effect of Re on the creep behavior of Ni-based superalloys.

Activity

The work carried out at CEMES, within the PPM team, under the supervision of F. Pettinari-Sturmel (Professor, University of Toulouse) and J. Douin (Research Director, CNRS), will involve investigations at the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) scale. These studies will combine in situ TEM tensile testing and post-mortem observations to examine the fundamental deformation mechanisms occurring in the temperature range of 850 °C to 1100 °C in γ-phase single crystals of Ni-based superalloys with varying Re contents.
The aim will also be to correlate the results obtained with the chemical composition of the superalloys under investigation, as well as with the results produced by project partners regarding deformation mechanisms identified at the macroscopic scale.
The tasks to be carried out include:
• Preparation of thin foils for TEM analysis and fabrication of dedicated tensile specimens for in situ TEM testing.
• Experimental work at the TEM scale, including characterization of microstructures obtained post-mortem after creep tests conducted by the German partner, as well as in situ TEM tensile experiments.
• Detailed characterization of dislocation dynamics and identification of the mechanisms governing dislocation mobility in each alloy.
• Comparative analysis of deformation mechanisms across the different alloys studied, in order to determine the influence of Re on dislocation mobility and existing defects.
• Comparison of TEM results with those obtained by project partners.
• Presentation of the results through oral communications and dissemination of the findings via publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Your Profil

Skills

Expertise in TEM and characterization of defects (dislocations)
Expertise in plasticity at the scale of dislocations and deformation micromechanisms
Expertise din Ni based superalloys

Your Work Environment

The work entrusted to us is being carried out the SRO-Nimatrix project, funded jointly by ANR and DFG, in partnership with colleagues at the University of Bayreuth. The project focuses on high-temperature deformation mechanisms in rhenium-containing nickel-based superalloys.
The German partner is responsible for casting single-phase single crystals corresponding to the γ phase of Ni-based superalloys with varying Re contents, as well as for conducting creep tests. The work carried out at CEMES focuses on the characterization of deformation mechanisms using transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
