Missions
This Research Engineer position is available in the Robotics, Action and Perception team (RAP, https://www.laas.fr/en/teams/rap/) at LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse. The research of the RAP team focuses on the design, prototyping, implementation, and evaluation of algorithms for: visual perception; sensor based control and navigation; interactive mobile manipulation; and multi-sensor data modeling and fusion. The successful candidate will work closely with permanent and postdoctoral members of the team on the STAIRS project (Shared Tools, Impact Assessment and Interoperability for Robotic Solution Sustainability). This project unites research and higher education institutions, industry partners, and various technical institutes and clusters to accelerate the operational deployment of a new generation of robotics-based agricultural equipment, enabling the large-scale implementation of more sustainable farming practices. Originating from the Grand Défi de la Robotique Agricole (GDRA), led by the RobAgri association, STAIRS began in 2025 for a duration of 3.5 years.
Within this framework, this Research Engineer position aims to contribute to the sharing of datasets and software libraries within the project.
Activités
The successful candidate will contribute to the synthesis of a dataset for robotic vine pruning and to a software development platform for algorithms of perception and vision based control associated with a mobile ground robotic manipulator.
Compétences
This offer is specifically for candidates holding a Master's degree or an Engineering degree. The required skills for this position are:
o Strong knowledge of perception, machine learning, and control for robotics. Interest in perception in robotics: use of monocular or stereoscopic visual sensors, LiDARs; segmentation, extraction, and matching of features…
o Programming languages: C, C++, Python
o Proficiency in robotics programming environments: Linux, ROS/ROS2, Git, Gazebo…
o Practical experience in hardware and software integration on robotic platforms.
o Autonomy and teamwork skills.
o Excellent written communication skills in French and English.
Contexte de travail
This work will take place within the Robotics Action Perception team, in the Robotics Department of LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse, France.
The position is located in a sector related to the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with regulations, that your arrival be authorized by the competent authority of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESR).
