Missions

The Research Engineer will be responsible for developing a software infrastructure aimed at integrating and demonstrating the research outcomes of the HumFleet project.
The main objective will be to set up an environment simulating the logistics activities of a fleet of robots within a warehouse. The focus will be on providing reliable and high-performance software components that enable deep integration of various research results in areas such as knowledge representation, task planning, and motion planning. It is not expected that, at least in its initial versions, the infrastructure provides highly detailed and physically accurate simulation of robotic perception and actuation functions. However, the outcome should allow real-time control and visualization of the navigation of a significant fleet of robots in a constrained environment.

Activities

- Software development: development of the core of the simulated environment (C++, Rust)
- Software integration: integration of different components developed within the HumFleet project (C++, Rust, Python)
- Preparation and participation in meetings with HumFleet project partners
- Participation in project valorization (oral presentations, publications)
- Participation in setting up validation scenarios in simulated environments

Skills

- Master's degree (M2) or engineering diploma in computer science or robotics
- Experience with robotic software environments (ROS1/ROS2, OMPL, URDF, Gazebo, ...)
- Proficiency in C++, Rust, Python
- A PhD or research experience will be appreciated, especially in areas related to navigation, task planning, or motion planning
- Ability to work in a team and in an interdisciplinary environment
- Organizational, writing (in French and English), and synthesis skills
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential

Work Context

The "Robotics and InteractionS" (RIS) team is a research group at LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse, internationally recognized for its work in developing autonomous mobile robots integrating perception, reasoning, learning, action, and reaction capabilities. The main research areas of the team are: architectures for autonomous robots, human-robot interaction, learning, and task and motion planning.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.

Constraints and risks

The risks are those typically associated with working with mobile robots in a laboratory environment.
