Job Description

Missions

The successful candidate will join the “low dimensional systems and quantum transport group” at LNCMI-G (B.A. Piot), focusing on the experimental study of low dimensional electronic systems. He/She will study graphene-based systems, exhibiting unique even-denominator fractional quantum Hall states thought to host excitations that have non-abelian quantum statistics, making them promising candidates for the implementation of topological quantum computation. Historically studied only in the cleanest ultra-high mobility GaAs MBE-grown quantum wells, recent reports of particularly robust even-denominator states in bilayer graphene now promote graphene-based systems as a privileged platform to identify, study, and stabilize these new states of matter.

Activity

His or her main task will be to perform transport and magnetic resonances experiments on state-of-the art graphene or bilayer graphene samples down to very low temperatures (~ 10 mK) and under magnetic fields up to 36T.

Your Profil

Skills

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in experimental condensed matter Physics. A very good technical background in low temperature experiments, and in particular an experience with “wet” dilution refrigerators, is crucial. Previous experience with 2D materials, transport experiments and magnetic resonances would be appreciated.

Your Work Environment

LNCMI-G, CNRS-Grenoble, France), is a French large-scale facility enabling researchers to perform experiments in the highest possible continuous magnetic fields.
---
Position to be filled from 01/09/2026. Delay possible depending on the selection date of the successful candidate, as well as delays linked to recruitment formalities.
One-year contract, renewable once.
---
Working at the LNCMI means benefiting from the CNRS's human resources policy and social action. These include the following benefits :
- subsidized collective catering
- partial reimbursement of public transport season tickets
- partial reimbursement of supplementary social protection contributions (subject to conditions)
- sustainable mobility package (subject to conditions)
- cultural and leisure offers via the Comité d'Actions et d'Entraide Sociale (CAES)
- full-time weekly working hours: 38:30
- teleworking (subject to conditions)
- 45 days annual leave, including RTT, for full-time work.

Constraints and risks

Depending on experimental schedule, experiments at LNCMI-G run 24 hours a day, possibly during week-ends.
The assignment involves occasional work in areas with a static magnetic field. This excludes applications from individuals who are not permitted to undertake such work (e.g. those with active or passive medical implants).

Compensation and benefits
